Art therapy uses the creative process of art making to inform personal meaning. Creating art in any form, can in and of itself, be a form of self-expression and healing. The Arts can also be used as tools to give voice to what was previously unknown and to help achieve therapeutic goals. Art therapy is a relatively gentle form of therapy that can assist people of all ages express difficult thoughts and feelings.
Artistic talent is not a requirement for a successful art therapy session. Art therapy is about self-inquiry and healing and not about making ‘great’ art. The focus of art therapy is on the process, and the metaphors and feelings, that arise during the experience.
